About Christopher Robin Is Dead
Christopher Robin Is Dead is a new musical being developed through a Theatre Now residency, culminating in two public developmental workshop readings at the Depot Theatre.
This developmental workshop reading gives the writers an opportunity to hear the work with performers, explore the musical in rehearsal, and learn from an audience before determining its next stage of development.
Synopsis
Christopher Robin Is Dead uses the whimsical world of Winnie-the-Pooh to explore the enormity of grief and the absurdity of loss.
When Christopher Robin leaves the forest, never to return, the creatures he created must confront his absence. As their new reality takes hold, questions arise and relationships shift, and their community fractures around them. Pooh and his friends struggle to honor Christopher Robin while forging a new path forward without him.
Through the lens of characters and material from A.A. Milne’s beloved short stories, Christopher Robin Is Dead offers compassion and hope to those who carry the absence of a person they love.
A Developmental Reading
Every new musical follows a different path to production. At Theatre Now, we work closely with writers to identify the next meaningful step in the development of each show.
Christopher Robin Is Dead is currently being developed through a Theatre Now Writers Residency in association with The Depot Theatre. During the residency, the creative team explores the script and score in rehearsal before presenting two public workshop readings.
What is a developmental reading?
A developmental reading is an opportunity for writers to hear their musical performed before a live audience while continuing to develop the work. Unlike a finished production, the focus is on exploration, discovery, and artistic growth.
These performances are an important part of the development process. Audience members have the opportunity to experience a new musical while it is still evolving and to support the artists as they continue shaping the work.
A wine and cheese reception will follow each performance.
The Creative Team
Theatre Now's developmental productions are made possible through the collaboration of writers, directors, musicians, performers, and creative artists who help bring new musicals to life.
